UN Resolution 1820 (2008) PDF Print

The 15-member Council unanimously adopted Resolution 1820 (2008), which noted that “rape and other forms of sexual violence can constitute war crimes, crimes against humanity or a constitutive act with respect to genocide”. It also affirmed the Council’s intention, when establishing and renewing State-specific sanction regimes, to consider imposing “targeted and graduated” measures against warring factions who committed rape and other forms of violence against women and girls.

Closing Conference of the Council of Europe Campaign PDF Print

Mr. Terry Davis, Secretary General of the Council of Europe, in his opening speech underlined that Europe has a long way ahead in the process of combat against domestic violence on woman and he invited all State members to occupy themselves on these questions. Mr. Davis emphasized that “Changing of attitudes and cultural discriminatory norms is a long term process, and results of those activities could be visible through the diminution of family violence”.

The main subject of the Conference was the Campaign of the Council of Europe, analysis of measures and activities related to question of family violence on women that have been undertaken by the member states within theirs parliaments, governments and local communities.
