With the aim of implementing as effectively as possible gender awareness in all aspects of public and private life, the Agency has, in cooperation with each entity’s gender centre, started constructing the Bosnia and Herzegovina Gender Action Plan, the single most important strategic document for the direct integration of gender equality in all spheres of public and private life, which is composed of:

  • Action Plans
  • Operational Plan
  • Annexes

The Action Plan is composed of the following fifteen areas:

  1. European Integration
  2. Co-operation and capacity building
  3. Macroeconomic and development strategies
  4. Budget
  5. Power and decision making
  6. Employment and labour market
  7. Social inclusion
  8. Gender sensitive media
  9. Lifelong education
  10. Health, prevention and protection
  11. Violence and human trafficking
  12. The role of men
  13. Aligning professional and private life
  14. Environment/sustainable development
  15. Information and communication technologies

The Operational Plan contains responsible institutions, indicators and deadlines. Annexes:

  • National Action Plan according to the Beijing Declaration
  • Initial CEDAW Report of Bosnia and Herzegovina
  • Recommendations of working groups for the implementation of the Law on Gender Equality in Bosnia and Herzegovina
  • Recommendations for the engendering PRSP/MTDS strategy
  • List of international and regional legal documents

The inclusion of the gender equality principle in all areas of social life and work, in public and private spheres, represents an achievement of one of the basic standards of human rights and basic freedoms. Gender equality is not exclusively an issue of social justice, but also represents a necessary requirement for social and economic development of a country, with particular emphasis on poverty reduction and improvement of life quality for all citizens.
